Q.
Does dtSearch use Microsoft Index Services to search with IFilters?
A. No. It is not neccessary for Index
Services to be running. dtSearch will be able to use any installed IFilter
for which you have setup an IFilter FileType.
Q.
How can I find out which IFilters are installed on my computer?
A. Citeknet's IFilter Explorer is able
to list all installed IFilters and can be downloaded from here www.citeknet.com
Q.
How do I set up dtSearch Desktop to use an installed IFilter?
A. From the Options
menu select Preferences > Indexing Options > File Types.
Click on the New... button and enter a suitable name - for example
to use a compiled Help file IFilter enter CHM then press OK
. In the File type list select IFilter, then
in the box below enter the filename pattern to identify the file extension,
for example *.chm. Check the box "Override all other file
type detection methods for these files", then click on the dialog
OK button. You will now need to update your indexes so that they
include the new file types.
Q.
How do I set up an application using the dtSearch Engine to use an installed
IFilter?
A. Use the FileTypeTableFile
to specify the filename patterns to use with IFilters.
Q What systems support the IFilter adaptor?
A. The IFilter
adapter works on systems with the Microsoft component query.dll installed
(e.g. Win 2000, XP, 2003) See this Microsoft
support page for details.
